This close-up guide introduces K–5 students to Betty Reid Soskin — songwriter, gospel music entrepreneur, civil rights advocate, and the oldest active National Park Service ranger in United States history. Betty co-founded Reid’s Records in Berkeley, California in 1945, kept a box of original songs hidden for forty years, and became a permanent NPS ranger at age 85, retiring at 100. Her work at the Rosie the Riveter WWII Home Front National Historical Park in Richmond, California ensured that the stories of Black workers during World War II, including those who labored under racial segregation, were part of the official historical record. This educator resource includes grade-differentiated content across K–1, 2–3, and 4–5 bands, an interactive horizontal timeline, discussion questions, and Explore More activities aligned to Georgia GSE, Michigan, Common Core, North Carolina, New York State, and New Jersey ELA and Social Studies standards.
