In the United States many people mark St. Patrick’s Day with celebrations of Irish culture, parades and festivities requiring a lot of green costumes. So it may come as a surprise that March is a month where other Saints enjoy special status. Some Saints like St. Joseph warrant a day off work in which fathers are pampered.

For example, St. Joseph’s Day is celebrated in Southern European countries as “father’s day” and is even a holiday with schools and banks closed for the festivities, special cakes, and pampering of Dads.

Originally celebrated as a spiritual or religious holiday, the Patron Saint of Ireland was believed to have spread Christianity in Ireland through preaching. He used the occasion to celebrate Irish heritage or just to have a party with things that are green, a color associated with Ireland’s endless green fields.

But who are some other Saints that are honored in the month of March, and in which countries are they acknowledged? This three Saints coloring activity booklet is styled as stained windows with stories about the customs and cultures of Ireland, Ticino and Wales, and stories about St. Patrick, St. Joseph, and Wales respectively. Enjoy an afternoon of coloring and good stories!
