Braille Slate
& Name Card Craft
A hands-on way to build classroom community, students emboss their own names in Braille on a slate they build themselves, exploring how Braille works while creating a name card for their desk or nametag.
The start of a new school year is all about introductions, building connections, and creating a welcoming classroom community. With this Braille Slate & Name Card Craft, students design their own personal name cards while exploring how Braille is written. Using a simple slate they build themselves, learners will emboss their names in Braille on name cards, a hands-on way to understand how Braille works while sparking important conversations about different ways people access language and information.
To start the year, students can use their Braille name cards as nametags or keep them on their desks to help classmates and teachers learn names in a unique way.
We’d love to see your creations! Send us snapshots of your completed Braille slates and Name cards to info@thence.us to be featured on our socials or tag us on Linkedin or Instagram!
