A Tale of Seasons and Celebrations

This TinkerTell story takes place in Southern Switzerland where Carnival is associated with many cultural themes. For example, in Italian speaking Ticino, for centuries many families, having lived there for generations, also attended services at Catholic churches. The period before Lent, is marked by festive celebration called “Carnevale”, whereas the time during Lent is a solemn time of religious study and reflection. However the festive celebrations in this season pre-date the arrival of Christianity in the region, and festivities are associated with chasing out the cold winter and ushering in a warm spring, and a return of growing food.
