Watch the season change! How fast do the United States, Canada, and Mexico cool from September to November?

[h5p id="MEXICO_MAP_ID"]Autumn begins around the September equinox (September 22–23). Days get shorter and the Sun gets lower in the sky, so most places cool down. Some places cool a lot. Others hardly change at all!
Most of the world measures temperature in degrees Celsius (°C), including Canada and Mexico. The metric system counts in tens, so 10/10 is a great day to try it! Press °C above and watch the numbers change. The weather stays exactly the same.
Check the learning goals you addressed. Each goal lists the standards it supports, so you can copy a coverage summary for lesson plans or reporting. Nothing is saved or sent anywhere. Hover over a standard code to read it.
Codes marked * should be confirmed against the state’s own document. States revise their standards from time to time.
City temperatures: The monthly averages are rounded approximations of typical conditions for each city, not measurements from one particular year.
Leaf color: When leaves change color depends on the weather and varies from year to year. The timing shown is a typical pattern.
Celsius: Canada and Mexico use °C. Use the °F / °C buttons to switch. °C = (°F − 32) × 5/9.
